In a thrilling showdown at Rumbugu playground in Kebison Town council Rukungiri district on Sunday, Buyanja sub-county emerged triumphant in the Hon. Namanya Naboth Cup, securing the coveted title in a gripping final against Nyarushanje Subcounty.

The tournament, initiated by Hon. Namanya Naboth following his election as the MP for Rubabo county in 2021, aims to foster talent within the Rubabo constituency.

Having navigated through the challenging group stages, Buyanja faced off against Nyarushanje in a nail-biting clash that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

The defining moment of the match came in the 7th minute when Munyangoga Akenjo, the son of Muhiirwe Alex from Rwenkureijo, netted the sole goal, securing the championship for Buyanja.

In recognition of their outstanding performance, Buyanja sub-county was awarded a trophy and a cow as tokens of appreciation. On the other side, Nyarushanje Subcounty received a monetary prize amounting to 800,000.

Football enthusiasts speculated that Nyarushanje’s defeat could be attributed to a lack of coordination among players, with allegations of two rival teams from Nyarushanje causing confusion on the field.

The match, graced by the presence of Hon. Namanya Naboth as the chief guest, unfolded at Rumbugu playground.

Hon. Naboth commended all participating teams and expressed his unwavering support for the tournament since its inception.

The Hon. Namanya Naboth Cup not only showcases the prowess of local football talent but also serves as a unifying force within the Rubabo constituency.
