Buyanja Subcounty is set to establish a police station at its newly constructed offices in Buhandagazi, making it the second best performing subcounty in Rukungiri District after Bugangari.
This was revealed during the first subcounty council meeting for the 2025-2026 financial year, held today at Buyanja Town Council headquarters, Rukungiri District.
While leading the meeting, Mr. Tukarugayo David, the subcounty council speaker, apologized and urged parish chiefs who have underperformed to redouble their efforts and deliver government programs efficiently. He also called for a free, fair, and peaceful forthcoming election, emphasizing accountability, unity, and cooperation among councilors.
The Buyanja Subcounty LC3 chairperson, Mr. Agaba Emmy Rubondo, thanked subcounty leaders, technical staff, and councilors for their hard work, cooperation, and accountability, which contributed to the subcounty being ranked as the second best performing after Bugangari in Rukungiri District. He, however, cautioned parish chiefs against embezzling PDM funds and urged them to focus on delivering government programs.
Mr. Rubondo appreciated all subcounty leaders and residents who voluntarily contributed 20,000 UGX towards the construction of the new subcounty offices in Buhandagazi, adding that the project also received 50 million UGX in support from the Ministry of Local Government and the district. He called on every local leader to promote accountability and unity.
In a special note, he thanked the government and the Rukungiri DPC for the plan to establish a subcounty police station at the new headquarters. He assured that a technical team had visited the site last week, measured, and identified an acre of land for the station. He expressed gratitude, noting that the police will help eliminate insecurity and reduce thefts common in the subcounty.
The Nyabiteete Parish Councillor, Mr. Karahukayo Charles, also appreciated government support and the contributions from local leaders and residents towards the construction of the new offices. He noted that the previous buildings were old with leaking roofs, causing records and documents to get damaged. With doors and windows now in place, the subcounty is ready to shift to the new offices soon.
Other discussions during the council meeting included improvements at Mineera Hotspot, holding parish baraza meetings, and addressing councilors who did not contribute 20,000 UGX for the new offices, with the council resolving to deduct the amount from their allowances.
The council also vowed to prioritize road improvements, including Rwakahima-Mineera Road and Omukiragiro-Omukikoona-Kihengamo Road, as well as renovations at Kasheshe Bishops Primary School, all scheduled for this financial year 2025-2026.
