Police in Rubirizi District have arrested a businesswoman on allegations of torturing her daughter.

The incident occurred last month in Nyabubare 11 A village, Nyakasozi Parish, Kichwamba Sub County, Rubirizi District.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, identified the arrested businesswoman as Juliet Kyomuhangi, 38, a resident of Rwandaro 1 village, Rumuri Parish, Kichwamba Sub County, Rubirizi District.

Tumusiime stated that the suspect is accused of torturing her daughter, Elizabeth Natasha, 13, a pupil at Rumuli Primary School in Kichwamba Sub County, Rubirizi District.

It is alleged that on July 6, 2024, when Natasha returned from school, she had lunch with her mother, who then instructed her to wash utensils. Natasha refused and chose to play with other children, which led her mother to throw a piece of firewood at her, causing an injury to the victim’s head.

The victim was first taken to Rugazi Health Centre IV for treatment. Natasha’s father, Robert Tindyeebwa, was then informed and reported the child torture to Kichwamba Police Station.

Subsequently, Natasha’s condition worsened, and her mother took her to Kampala International Teaching Hospital because the father claimed he did not have the funds for treatment.

Tumusiime confirmed that inquiries are ongoing, and the suspect will be presented in court to face charges of child torture.
