Edinansi Kakazi, a 90-year-old disabled resident of Mugamba Cell, Kyatoko Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, is deeply distressed by the disappearance of her granddaughter and caregiver, Precious Anyineho.
Precious Anyineho, a 13-year-old mentally ill single orphan and a Primary Seven pupil at Kk Kindergarten Nursery and Primary—sponsored by the Kinyasano Child Development Center—has been missing for two weeks. It is alleged that she was raped by Petero Bamwesiga, a 56-year-old resident of Nyaruharo Village, Kyatoko Ward, Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality when she approached him for contributions toward her trip.
According to reports, Precious Anyineho and Petero Bamwesiga were seen together and were interrupted by a herdsboy during the assault. Both fled the scene.
Edinansi Kakazi expressed her frustration over her granddaughter’s disappearance and her helplessness in reporting the case due to her disability. She is particularly disturbed by the fact that Petero Bamwesiga, a relative and elderly man with a wife, is accused of this crime against Precious Anyineho.
Sam Kabuganda, the Chairperson LC1 of Mugamba Cell, confirmed the distress and speculation in the village but mentioned he had not received an official report.
Annah Kyaragaire, Director of Kk Kindergarten Nursery and Primary School, confirmed Precious Anyineho’s disappearance. She noted that Precious, who is known to be mentally ill, had been rumored to have had a relationship with Petero Bamwesiga, and that they disappeared together.
Efforts to contact Petero Bamwesiga for a comment have been unsuccessful as his phone is currently off.
