In Rubirizi District, two individuals have been arrested on charges of assault and unlawful confinement.
The incident occurred on July 28, 2024, around 3:00 PM in Katabago Two Cell, Kyabakara Parish, Kyabakara Sub-County.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and identified the suspects as William Mbagirenta, 47, a resident of the same area, and Mbusa, from Nyakasanga, Kasese.
The victims have been identified as Nuwanmanya Tobias, 22, a Mukiga peasant residing in Katabago 11 Cell, Kyabakara Parish, and Nabireeba Yosam, 38, also a resident of the same location.
It is alleged that on the night of July 25, 2024, unknown individuals stole five goats from Mbagirenta’s home. On July 28, 2024, Mbagirenta brought a witch doctor named Mbusa from Nyakasanga, Kasese, to perform rituals at his home. During this event, the witch doctor administered herbs to the victims, causing them to become unconscious and exhibit behavior similar to that of goats.
The victims were then confined in Mbagirenta’s goat shelter for three days without food or water. They became weak and were later rescued following orders from Chairman LC I Johnson Tayebwa.
