Shock and grief have gripped the business community in Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality following the death of a local businessman found in a hotel room under unclear circumstances.

Isaac Ruhigwa Atwiine, 54, a businessman from Bushenyi Town and a resident of Bwegiragye Cell, Ward IV, Ishaka Division, was discovered dead at Deluxe Hotel in Kizinda Town, Bushenyi District, on October 9, 2024. The cause of death remains unknown, and investigations are underway, according to Mr. Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson. No arrests have been made so far.

“We have gathered some initial information that, on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., the deceased, along with an unidentified woman, checked into Deluxe Hotel Kizinda seeking accommodation,” Tumusiime said.

Allegedly, at the time of their arrival at the hotel, the deceased was holding a half-glass of beer, which he had brought from outside. While the hotel register recorded the deceased’s name and address, he reportedly instructed the receptionist not to record the woman’s details.

Tumusiime further explained that the two were assigned room D8. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the woman was seen leaving the hotel alone. Shortly after her departure, she called the hotel owner, Francis Byompaire, also known as Dotcom, informing him that the deceased was in poor condition.

Ms. Vian Kihembo, the receptionist, confirmed that the two were given room D8. “I received a call from my boss asking me to check on the man. When I entered the room, I found him lying on the bed, unresponsive. I immediately informed the boss, and soon after, the police arrived,” she said.

Mr. Byompaire, a businessman and resident of Kizinda Town, reported the matter to the police. He mentioned that he was not present at the time of the incident. “The deceased was found in room D8, lying on the bed fully covered with a bedspread. When the cover was removed, his body was discovered completely naked,” he added.

Police investigations continue as the community awaits answers.
