In a significant turn of events, the Bushenyi District Council dropped charges previously leveled against Dan Taratwebirwe, the Principal Assistant Secretary and former Clerk to the Council.

During a council meeting held at the district council hall in Bushenyi, councillors revisited a prior resolution that recommended Taratwebirwe be referred to the District Service Commission. It should be noted that the Bushenyi District Council had earlier petitioned the Minister for Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, regarding the conduct of the then Chief Administrative Officer, John Nyakahuma, who has since been transferred. Minister Magyezi, in response, instructed the council to submit Taratwebirwe’s case to the District Service Commission, a step that had not been taken.

However, in a dramatic shift, the council, under the guidance of Speaker Dagorous Mucunguzi, chose to pardon Taratwebirwe instead. The charges against him stemmed from an incident in which he was accused of insubordination and disrespect for leaving a council meeting without the presiding speaker’s consent.

Phionah Sanyu, the Chief Administrative Officer of Bushenyi District, acknowledged the council’s decision, noting that the alleged offence occurred within the council and expressed that the pardon was a positive gesture of reconciliation.

Taratwebirwe, for his part, expressed regret for his actions, admitting that he should have informed the speaker and the council before leaving the meeting.
