Two suspects accused of murdering a boda boda cyclist have been remanded by the Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Bushenyi until June 4, 2024.

The court presided over by Her Worship Omar Ahamed Halima, remanded Vincent Musinguzi and Leonard Mpairwe on charges of murder and theft of the victim’s motorcycle, belonging to Wilson Asiimwe.

According to the prosecution, the two suspects, along with others who are still at large, allegedly killed Asiimwe and disposed of his body in Nyamirembe swamp, situated on the border of Bushenyi and Mitooma Districts.

The incident reportedly took place on April 23, 2024. The suspects were apprehended by Bushenyi police shortly thereafter and were initially granted police bond, a decision that generated mixed reactions among the residents in Butaare, Kyamuhunga sub-county.

Magistrate Ahamed clarified that her court lacks jurisdiction to prosecute the two suspects, indicating that they should be tried by the High Court.

It’s worth noting that residents of Butare in Kyamuhunga town council recently protested at the office of the RDC, accusing the Bushenyi District police of insufficiently enforcing the law.
