The Link Bus driver with vehicle registration number UBG 188P, identified as Andrew Jemba, aged 43, was apprehended and taken into custody at Kyegegwa Police Station on November 1, 2023, at approximately 11 a.m. This action followed a viral video that showed him using his phone while driving along the Kampala – Fortportal Road.
The driver has been formally charged under the provisions of Regulation 3(a) and 4 of the Traffic and Road Safety (Restriction of Use of Mobile Telephone) Regulations, 2004.
The police expressed its appreciation to the public for their vigilance in promoting road safety and urges everyone to maintain their efforts by reporting and sharing any information regarding traffic violations on our toll-free hotline at 0800199099.
It also warned all motorists against using mobile phones while driving, as it has been identified as a significant factor contributing to road accidents in the country.
