The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has reinstated operations of Boona FM 91.8, bringing relief to its listeners after the station had been off air for more than a week.

In a letter dated 19th September 2025, addressed to the Managing Director of Boona FM, the Commission authorized the station to resume broadcasting effective 20th September 2025. This followed a meeting between UCC officials and the radio’s management on 11th September at UCC House Bugolobi, where regulatory issues affecting the station were discussed.

The Commission acknowledged the remedial measures taken by Boona FM to ensure compliance and urged the station to maintain regulatory standards. However, UCC directed Boona FM to pay a fine of USD 260 for non-compliance with earlier directives, and to complete its license renewal process within 60 days of its application.

UCC further maintained the suspension of all programs hosted by Mr. Namanya Kakyene, noting that he is not yet a qualified journalist, although he has commenced studies to attain the required qualifications.

The reopening of Boona FM has been welcomed by the community in Rukungiri and beyond, as the station has been a key platform for news, information, and entertainment.
