Members of the Boona Bagaigahare group in Mabanga Parish, Kebisoni Sub-county, Rukungiri District, have expressed frustration and appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to address their grievances. They claim to have waited over seven years without receiving the promised items despite paying the required membership fee.
Led by their coordinator, Madam Tukamuhebwa Mackline Turyahikayo, the group voiced their dissatisfaction with the unfulfilled promises of the initiative. Members allege that they paid 12,000 UGX each as a membership fee, but to date, they have not received any items. Mackline highlighted that members in other districts have already benefited from the program, receiving hens, goats, coffee seedlings, and mattresses. However, in Rukungiri District, they continue to wait due to what they describe as poor leadership.
Mackline lamented that the situation has left many members disillusioned. She called on the president to intervene and resolve the matter so that they, too, can benefit from the initiative, which was intended to alleviate poverty.
Some members, including Tukashaba Nekemiya Nyabanabo, Ketura Tumuhirwe, and Jovolet Kwikiriza, echoed Mackline’s concerns, expressing disappointment with the selfishness of local leaders. They claimed that the items are already available in the group’s offices but are not being distributed to members in Rukungiri.
The members noted that Madam Peace Rugambwa, introduced to them by President Museveni as the group’s chairperson, was entrusted to help them out of poverty. However, after paying the membership fee, they have seen no progress, leaving them with little hope.
They appealed to the President to ensure the distribution process begins, emphasizing that they no longer care about refunds but only want the items they were promised.
Kenyangi, an elderly member, also expressed dissatisfaction, urging the leaders to resolve the issue. She explained that due to her advanced age, she lacks the strength to work for money to purchase items such as mattresses. She called for the distribution process to proceed, enabling members to benefit from the program as originally intended.
Speaking on the matter, Madam Peace Rugambwa, the chairperson of Boona Bagaigahare for the southwestern region, stated that she has made numerous efforts to ensure members in Rukungiri receive their items, but her attempts have been blocked by selfish leaders.
She confirmed that all the items are ready and available in their offices and that members in other districts have already received theirs. She expressed disappointment that local leaders in Rukungiri are preventing the distribution process, depriving members of the benefits.
Madam Rugambwa also appealed to President Museveni to step in and resolve the issue, ensuring that members in Rukungiri can finally access their promised items and use them to improve their livelihoods.
