Farmers in Nyakashabya Ward, Kabwohe Division, Sheema District, are in panic following a suspected outbreak of African Swine Fever, prompting immediate action from the district authorities.

The Sheema District veterinary team has suspended all movement of pigs within the district. In a letter dated January 7, 2025, addressed to district stakeholders and health officers in neighboring districts—Bushenyi, Mitooma, Rwampara, Buhweju, Isingiro, and Ntungamo—Dr. Joseph Amanya, the Sheema District Veterinary Officer, announced the suspension.

Sam Orikunda, the Sheema District Deputy RDC, confirmed that district security teams have resolved to enforce the veterinary department’s directives while awaiting results from samples sent to government laboratories in Entebbe.

He called on all stakeholders to cooperate with local leaders and security personnel to ensure swift and effective containment of the outbreak.
