A tragic road accident claimed the life of a boda boda rider on the evening of August 25th, 2024, in Rubanda District. The fatal incident occurred at approximately 10:15 PM at Murole B Cell, Nyakabungo Ward, along the Kabale-Kisoro road.

The deceased has been identified as Mbabazi Wensislus, a resident of Rutoga Cell, Nyarurambi Ward, in Rubanda Town Council. Mbabazi, who was riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UEU 931B, was traveling from the Kisoro direction towards Kabale when the accident occurred.

According to the police report, as Mbabazi approached a corner descending towards the Mukivundwe area, he lost control of his motorcycle. The motorcycle veered off the road, causing Mbabazi to crash into a trench, where he struck his head on a road pavement. The impact of the crash was severe, and Mbabazi died instantly.

Local authorities quickly responded to the scene. The area was secured and thoroughly documented by the territorial police in Rubanda. A postmortem examination was conducted, and the body was subsequently handed over to Mbabazi’s family for burial.

Initial investigations suggest that the primary cause of the accident was overspeeding, which caused the rider to lose control on the sloping corner.

The tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety in the region, particularly along the Kabale-Kisoro road, known for its sharp bends and steep gradients. Local leaders and authorities are urging boda boda riders and other motorists to exercise caution, especially when navigating such challenging terrain.

Mbabazi Wensislus was a well-known boda boda rider in the Rubanda community, and his sudden death has left the town in mourning. Funeral arrangements are currently underway, with friends, family, and fellow riders expected to pay their final respects.
