A tragic road accident in Kisoro district has claimed the lives of two individuals and left five others injured. The incident occurred at around 8:30 PM in Kagano village, Muhindura Parish, Kanaba Sub-county, along the Kisoro-Kabale road.
The accident involved a black Toyota Noah with registration number CGO 9777AB /07, which was reportedly traveling from Butembo in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to Goma. The vehicle, carrying seven passengers, failed to negotiate a corner near Kasheregenyi Trading Centre and overturned several times, plunging into a valley approximately 150 meters from the road.
The deceased have been identified as Katmbo Kisinziro, a resident of Butembo in DRC, and an unidentified female adult. The identities of the five injured passengers, as well as the driver, have yet to be established.
The injured were promptly transported to Kisoro Hospital and Mutolere Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to Kisoro Hospital mortuary.
According to ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, preliminary investigations suggest that the primary cause of the accident was overspeeding and reckless driving. The scene was visited by ASP Kushaba Michael, the District Traffic Officer for Kisoro, and a team of officers who are continuing with inquiries.
