Boda-Boda cyclists operating at Omukanoni and Kasitamo stages in Kayungwe sub-county, Kanungu District, are dissatisfied with the poor condition of the district road connecting Kayugwe sub-county and Nyakabungo town council.

This road starts at the Rukungiri-Kanungu border in Kabalanga town, Nyakishenyi sub-county, and passes through the newly created Kayungwe sub-county and Kabashakyi to Omukagashe trading center.

Nicholas Niwagaba, one of the boda-boda cyclists, expressed that their appeals to Kanungu district authorities through local leaders to rehabilitate the road have been ignored. The poor road conditions are hindering transportation and damaging their motorcycles, leading to frequent visits to the garage.

Mr. Joseph Akakwasa, the Rugyeyo sub-county district councilor who is also overseeing the newly created Kayugwe sub-county, urged residents to remain calm. He assured them that the road has been included in the next financial year’s budget, which will commence soon.

The Kanungu district council has allocated over 73 million shillings for the rehabilitation of the 8 km Kabalanga-Kasitamo-Omukanoni-Nyakabungo road in the 2024-2025 financial year.
