Police in Rubirizi District have apprehended a man suspected of sexually assaulting a three-year-old child.
The incident was reported on June 26, 2024, at Kishenyi Police Station in Rubirizi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Police, disclosed that the assault occurred in Nyamweru village, Kishenyi Parish, Katunguru Sub-county. The victim, identified as a 3-year-old Congolese girl studying in Primary Three at Kishenyi Primary School, was allegedly threatened by the suspect, Moses Kyabuligiriti Mugarura, who reportedly threatened her life.
According to reports, in May 2024, the victim’s father sent her to Kishenyi Trading Center to purchase sugar. Along the way, she lost the money and, afraid to return home, stayed behind to search for it. Late into the evening, she found the money and started her journey back, where she encountered the suspect, who then assaulted her.
Irene Nuwagaba, aged 53 and the head teacher of Kishenyi Primary School, notified the police after observing the victim facing difficulties while walking. Upon further inquiry, the victim disclosed the disturbing incident.
