The Bishop of Kabale Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira has urged families to prioritize planning and income generation as a strategy to eradicate poverty.

Speaking at the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund (BAAF) event held on Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Rubanda Catholic Parish, Bishop Rubaramira called on Christians to hold family meetings in December to plan for 2025. He emphasized leveraging government initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) to boost household incomes.

“Have meetings in your families this December and plan for what you will do in 2025,” the Bishop advised. “Ensure that government resources, such as PDM funds, are used productively. Money should multiply into more money, not be wasted on unproductive things.”

He encouraged families to involve children in productive activities and avoid extravagant lifestyles, stressing unity, hard work, and deliberate planning as essential tools for eliminating poverty.

The Bishop’s message was well-received, with Rubanda Woman MP hopeful, Mrs. Jacqueline Katabazi, commending his visionary leadership.

“Bishop Callistus Rubaramira is a true leader of progress. If Christians heed his call, poverty can be eradicated in our families,” Katabazi remarked. She emphasized the centrality of planning in achieving development.

“Development starts with planning. Nobody achieves success without envisioning it first and working hard to make it happen. This is the surest path to fighting poverty and creating better lives for our families,” she added.

Represented by Rubanda District Governor Stephen Kasyaba, Hon. Henry Musasizi, the State Minister for Finance and MP for Rubanda County East, highlighted government efforts to combat poverty through initiatives like PDM, Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Fund.

“These programs are designed to reduce poverty and promote self-reliance. I urge Christians to embrace them and use them effectively to uplift their families,” Musasizi said.

He also lauded ongoing infrastructure investments in Rubanda, including the construction of Rubanda Community Hospital at Kamugongo, Bufundi Health Centre IV, and Hamurwa Health Centre IV, while urging continued support for the NRM government to sustain development.

The event raised over UGX 230 million to support diocesan initiatives, underscoring the community’s commitment to shared progress.

The Bishop’s call to action resonated with attendees, who pledged to embrace planning, hard work, and effective utilization of resources as the foundation for a prosperous future.
