The Parish Priest of St. John’s Bugongi Church of Uganda, Rev. Henry Nzaana, has called on parents in Kigezi to prioritize education as the region’s primary source of household income.

Speaking during the thanksgiving ceremony for God’s Favor Nursery and Primary School at St. John’s Church in Kabale Municipality’s Northern Division, Rev. Nzaana emphasized the critical role of education in combating poverty.

He highlighted that while other regions like Ankole rely on cattle for economic sustenance, Kigezi lacks similar natural resources, making education the most viable path to improved livelihoods.

The school’s proprietor, Saturday Collins Kahesi, echoed these sentiments, urging men to play an active role in their children’s education beyond paying school fees. He appealed to fathers to attend school meetings and take an interest in their children’s learning environment, instead of leaving such responsibilities solely to their wives.

The thanksgiving ceremony, attended by parents, staff, and church members, raised over one million Ugandan shillings, which will be used to complete the construction of the church.

This event underscored the strong link between education and community development in Kigezi, with leaders and residents united in the cause of building a brighter future through learning.
