The former Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga, has declared his intention to run for the position of Kabale District NRM Chairperson.

He made this announcement today while serving as the guest of honor at a fundraising event at Kirigime Church of Uganda. The event aimed to raise funds for paying off a loan incurred for purchasing a residential house for the parish priest of Kirigime Church of Uganda. The church was also celebrating its sixth anniversary, and the ceremony was held at its premises in Kirigime Ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.

Aja Baryayanga noted that since no other candidate has declared interest in the position, he is currently unopposed. The NRM Chairperson seat is currently occupied by the State Minister of Trade (Industrialization) and Ndorwa West Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. David Bahati.

Aja stated that his primary goal in contesting for the position is to restore the NRM’s lost glory in Kabale District. Kabale District is represented in Parliament by four members: Ndorwa West MP David Bahati (NRM), Ndorwa East MP Wilfred Niwagaba (Independent), Kabale Municipality MP Nicholas Kamara (FDC), and Kabale District Woman MP Catherine Ndamira (NRM).

He emphasized that his focus would be on re-engaging Ugandans who had once supported the NRM but later shifted their allegiance due to dissatisfaction with the party’s governance in Kabale.

Minister David Bahati has served as NRM Chairperson for Kabale District for two terms. This upcoming contest is expected to be highly competitive, considering both men’s popularity and resources.
