Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, who was recently defeated in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries for Kisoro Woman MP, has announced her intention to run as an independent candidate in the upcoming by-election.
The NRM primaries saw Rose Kabagyeni, Senior Presidential Advisor on Agriculture, emerge victorious with 39,941 votes, narrowly beating Akifeza, who received 39,197 votes.
Following her loss, Akifeza disputed the results, alleging widespread irregularities. Despite these claims, Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, upheld the outcome, stating there was insufficient evidence to substantiate allegations of vote rigging or voter manipulation.
In a statement to her supporters and the Kisoro community, Akifeza committed to running as an independent, describing the result as unjust and pledging to continue her campaign.
