A second victim has died following the tragic accident involving a fuel tanker that overturned and caught fire in Kabale District on October 26, 2024.

Police in Kabale confirmed that Geoffrey Onyango, the tanker’s 34-year-old driver, passed away in Kenya, where he had been airlifted for medical treatment. Onyango, a Kenyan national and resident of Eldoret, suffered severe burns after escaping the vehicle, which burst into flames following brake failure along the Mbarara-Kabale Highway at Kyanamira Trading Center.

The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. as the tanker, registered under UAQ 912N/SSD 351Y, was traveling toward Kabale. The vehicle lost control and overturned, igniting upon impact.

Onyango’s assistant, 20-year-old Rogers Onyango, also a Kenyan national, was initially unaccounted for; however, his remains were later found inside the burned wreckage after the fire was extinguished. His body is currently at Kabale Hospital mortuary.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
