Police in Rukiga district is investigating the circumstances under which a 1-year-old baby was killed in an accident that occurred at Rwabahazi cell central ward Muhanga Town Council Rukiga district.
Elly Maate the Kigezi region police spokesperson says the hit and run fatal accident occurred on the 02/06/2022 at around 14:30hrs
Maate identified the deceased as Uwimana, a daughter to Nyirashimyimana, resident of Kafuka cell central ward Muhanga Town Council Rukiga district.
Maate narrates that Nyirashimiyimana who was carrying her baby on her back and heading to Muhanga Town Council to visit her relatives was hit by an over speeding vehicle whose Make, model, and registration number were not established.
The scene was visited by ASP Bakuta Joel the Officer in charge of traffic in Rukiga district and his team.
The vehicle sped off towards Kabale leaving the baby dead, and the mother with severe injuries
Statements from witnesses were recorded and the body was taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary while the injured mother was taken to the same hospital for medical attention.
Maate says inquiries are at hand and efforts to trace the vehicle involved are ongoing
