Police in Rukungiri is holding 19 year old Talent Ahereza ,resident of Kirehe cell Kitimba Parish Nyakagyeme subcounty Rukungiri district over the murder of his 18 month old son.
The half buried and half destroyed body of a male juvenile now identified as David Birungi Bya Yesu was discovered by residents of Kirehe cell sending shockwaves among the locals .
Elly Maate the Kigezi region Police spokesman says Talent Ahereza was arrested after locals realised that the child he was staying with was no longer being seen.
The suspicious locals alerted the local authorities who apprehended the suspect and handed him over to Rukungiri Central Police says ASP Maate.
On interrogation by Police, the suspect confessed to police that the recovered decomposing body belonged to his child and that he had murdered the deceased by strangulation due to his failure to provide necessities.
It was further revealed that the suspect became a father at a tender age after defiling a young girl who produced the now deceased child.
After delivery, the child was given to the family of the suspect and the mother went back to her parents in Kambuga.
Maate narrated that about two weeks ago the grandmother of the suspect told him to embrace his responsibilities as a father, and that’s when he picked the child and started staying with him.
However he claims that he could not provide necessities and thus decided to end his sons life.
Maate condemned the act saying the suspect will be produced before court to answer to charges of murder #crime #infanticide
