800 VHTs in Ntungamo, are undergoing training which started on Monday this week to learn how to report information related to health digitally using smartphones that were provided by the Ministry of Health

Nestorio Twesigye the Ntungamo district health educator says they are conducting these trainings to ensure that VHTs are trained to use smartphones to do their work effectiveness as per the Ministry of Health requirement.

Nestorio says the program started last year with 5 five sub-counties that include Kitwe Town Council, Rukoni West, Rugarama Nyamunuka Town Council, and Bwongyera sub-county.

He says that ever since VHTs in these 5 sub-counties received smartphones and trained on how to use them, their work is going on smoothly, which has impressed the Ministry of Health to also do the same pieces of training in other sub-counties.

He said that another training is now going on in areas of Nyakyera town council, Ruhaama sub-county, and Rubaare sub-county among others.

Speaking to our reporter, Seith Ruzira a VHT Coordinator from Ngomba parish Nyakyeera town council, said they have been struggling to communicate and get feedback from the Ministry of Health concerning their work due to a lack of knowledge on how to use phones.

He said their work will now be easy after the training.
