The Rukungiri Central Police station in Rukungiri District is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Murera Driano, a 73-year-old resident of Bihasha Cell in Kahoko Parish, Nyakagyeme Sub County.
Mr. Driano was discovered dead on Tuesday morning at Omukitengye trading center, also in the same area, with visible wounds and blood on his face.
Kusiima Edwin, a 16-year-old merchandise shop service provider at Omukitengye trading center, reported that he noticed the deceased lying in the road in front of his shop when he woke up at approximately 4:05 am. He promptly informed his neighbors about the discovery.
Maria Lovina Kyenda-eresire, an elderly woman and the wife of the deceased, expressed her astonishment at finding her husband dead, as they had been living peacefully. Gereva Ainobushoborozi, the Chairperson of LC1 Bihasha Cell, mentioned that the deceased had known health issues, but they do not believe these were the primary cause of his death.
The Homicide team from Rukungiri Central Police station, led by Detective AIP Mushabe Andrew, visited the scene and subsequently took the body to Rwakabengo Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Afande Mushabe Andrew urged the local residents to refrain from resorting to mob justice and encouraged them to support proper investigations and report their findings instead.
