The territorial police in Kabale have arrested three suspects in connection with the office break-in and theft of 19 computers valued at UGX 259 million from Hornby High School Junior in the Northern Division of Kabale Municipality.
The suspects are Muhwezi Nicholas (computer teacher), Mbabazi Michael (casual staff), and Tushabomwe Philip (security guard).
It is alleged that on the night of July 6, 2024, at approximately 3:00 AM, in Rugarama Cell, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality, Kabale District, Muhwezi Nicholas, Mbabazi Michael, Tushabomwe Philip, and others still at large conspired to break into Hornby High School Junior and steal 19 school computers valued at UGX 259 million.
It is further alleged that the suspects, with the assistance of some school staff, trespassed onto the school property, broke the windows and burglar bars, and gained entry into the computer lab where they stole the computers.
The night watchman, Tushabomwe Philip, subsequently reported the incident to the head teacher, Beinomugisha Geoffrey, who was not satisfied with Philip’s explanation. The headteacher then went to Kabale Police Station to report the matter, leading to the opening of a case of office break-in and theft.
The crime scene was visited and documented, and a police canine unit was deployed, which tracked the suspects to the road where 8 monitors were recovered. The three suspects were arrested to assist with the ongoing investigation.
Inquiries are underway.
