The territorial police in Kisoro District have launched a manhunt for two suspects involved in a deadly assault that led to the death of a 24-year-old man from the Batwa community.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of May 26, 2025, at around 8:30 PM at Koranya Trading Centre, Nyagakenke Village, Gisozi Parish in Muramba Sub County. According to police reports, the deceased was first attacked by a man identified only as Alsen, who struck him in the stomach with a wooden stick for unknown reasons before fleeing the scene.

As the victim was being escorted home by a man identified as Baragwiza George, a second attacker, Nshimiye, reportedly ambushed them along the way and also assaulted them with a wooden stick before running away.

Despite the attacks, the victim managed to reach home. The following day, May 27, his condition deteriorated and he sought treatment from a nearby clinic. However, his health continued to worsen until he was found dead on the morning of May 30 at his parents’ residence.

The community leader reported the matter to Muramba Police Post, and the case was escalated to Kisoro Central Police Station. Officers visited and processed the crime scene, collected statements from witnesses, and carried out a postmortem before releasing the body to relatives for burial.

The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that investigations into the motive of the assault are ongoing and appealed to the public to provide any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.

“Anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of the perpetrators should volunteer it so that they are brought to book and charged accordingly,” said ASP Maate.

The police have assured the community of their commitment to ensure justice is served and have urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and report suspicious behavior promptly.
