A 26-year-old woman has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Bushenyi high court for the murder of radio presenter Allan Kamukama Mandela.
Loyce Tihinomwangire was found guilty of the crime, which took place on 12/02/2021, in Rwentuha town council, Bushenyi District.
Tihinomwangire, who was the long-time girlfriend of the deceased, was the first to receive a sentence during the ongoing plea bargaining section at the Bushenyi high court.
The prosecution, led by Gerald Buguma, stated that Tihinomwangire committed the offense on 12/02/2021.
Buguma expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, noting that the heavy sentence was appropriate, considering Tihinomwangire’s acceptance of the case without wasting the court’s time.
During the ruling, Justice Amos Kwizera acknowledged Tihinomwangire’s cooperation with the court and deemed the punishment suitable. He handed her an 18-year prison sentence, deducting two years and eleven months for the time she had already spent on remand.
Ms. Caroline Ninsiima, the defense counsel, explained that she had advised her client appropriately and had requested leniency from the court.
Ninsiima highlighted that Tihinomwangire was a first-time offender, young, and could potentially reform.
