The territorial police in Rukungiri District have arrested an 18-year-old man, Vincent Nuwamanya, as investigations continue into the heartbreaking death of two-year-old Ayesiga Shiana. Shiana, the daughter of Michael Tugume, was discovered dead under disturbing circumstances in Omukacundezi cell, Kisizi Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-County.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of October 22, 2024, at around 7:00 PM. Shiana’s mother, Kwarikunda Sofia, realized her daughter was missing after she had been playing with other children near their home. After a frantic search through the neighborhood, residents joined in to help locate the child.
In a devastating turn of events, Shiana was found about 30 meters from her home with her arms and legs tied using banana fibers. The young girl had suffered severe injuries, including the exposure of her intestines through her private parts. The discovery sent shockwaves through the community, with Sofia raising an alarm that brought local residents to the scene.
Authorities were immediately notified, and the case was registered at Kisizi Lower Police Post. The crime scene was thoroughly examined, and a post-mortem was conducted. The police are investigating the possibility of murder and child sacrifice, as it remains unclear what motivated the horrific crime.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of Nuwamanya and emphasized that inquiries into the case are ongoing. The Rukungiri community is left grieving, as they await justice for the young life tragically cut short.
