The police in Mitooma District have initiated an investigation into the reported disappearance of a 17-year-old schoolgirl.

Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and identified the missing girl as Presca Katushabe, a 17-year-old student in Senior Two at Nyakatete Senior Secondary School in Mitooma District.

According to reports, on April 28, 2028, at 10:00 AM, the girl’s mother, Jesca Kyokunda, aged 40 and a resident of Kitwe Village, Rurehe North Parish, Kabira Sub-county in Mitooma District, left the girl at home to attend prayers at Kitwe Church of Uganda.

Tumusiime stated that the girl remained at home, preparing to attend a youth meeting at Nyakishojwa Parish Church around 2:00 PM. However, upon returning home, the mother was surprised to find her daughter missing.

At approximately 5:00 PM, the mother encountered one of her daughter’s teachers who informed her that they had seen the girl being transported on a motorcycle towards Rukungiri District.

Furthermore, Tumusiime mentioned that on April 30, 2024, at around 6:00 AM, the mother received a threatening call demanding one million shillings. Failure to comply would result in harm to her daughter.

The police have forwarded the phone number to the Uganda Police’s IT department for potential tracking as the investigation progresses.
