A total of 1562 locals from Rukungiri district have so far received Parish Development Model funds to uplift their living standards.
This has been revealed by Keith Ainebyoona the Rukungiri district Commercial officer during an interview with our reporter in his office at the district headquarters.
Ainebyoona said the district has 75 parishes that are likely to benefit from the program and only 42 of them have already received money that is being used by 1562 people.
He said that before the end of May, the remaining parishes will have also received their portion thereby challenging beneficiaries to wait patiently.
Geoffrey Kyomukama the Rukungiri district Chairperson challenged beneficiaries to properly use PDM funds, noting that the program is capable of eradicating poverty if beneficiaries handle it properly.
He said PDM is quite different from other government programs as it is monitored at the parish level.
James Mujuni, one of the beneficiaries from Rushaha parish Nyakagyeme sub county says he was given UGX 1M to boast his banana plantation and increase sales to enhance his income.
He says ever since he took the money, he has witnessed a difference.
