Residents of Kashambya sub-county in Rukiga District have raised concerns about the poor state of Ruboroga Bridge.
The bridge due to heavy downpours in the past weeks, waters of River Ruboroga rose and cut off the road on the Nyaruziba- Nyakashebeya road that connects to Kashambya sub-county headquarters, Kashambya Health Center III, several primary schools, and the Business community in Rutengye and Nyakashebeya parishes in Rukiga district.
The schools that are affected most include; Kicucwe primary school, Nyakariba primary school, Nyakatojo Nursery, and Primary School among others. Residents say that the appalling state of the bridge has affected the movement of both people and their agricultural produce.
Francis Kajwarire, the chairperson Nyakatojo boda Boda stage expressed concern about how politicians use them during elections and forget them shortly after winning which has greatly affected development in the area.
Allan Tayebwa, a resident of Nyaruziba trading center in Kashambya sub-county expressed equal concern that their leaders have forgotten Kashambya like working on Major bridges.
Equally Prima Bangirana was concerned about how school-going children will be crossing the bridge when the school reopens for the second term.
Prossy Abenanye, the Kashambya sub-county councilor representing Rutengye parish who doubles as the sub-county vice chairperson is concerned about how pregnant mothers are suffering to access Kashambya health center III for antenatal services and asked district authorities to intervene.
Tweheyo Ronah Rwebandira, the Rukiga female district councilor representing Kashambya sub-county said that the state of that road is appalling and said that he told district authorities but they kept a deaf ear yet the situation needs emergency.
When our reporter contacted Mbabazi Robert Kakwerere, the Rukiga district LC5 chairman, without giving a time frame, he said that the residents should wait because that road at the Major Bridge is not in the district budget so working on it will be diversion or misappropriation of government funds.
This is not the first time residents from Kashambya Sub County have complained about the appalling state of the roads and bridges. In March last year, Residents of Bucundura parish in Kashambya sub-county, Rukiga District raised a similar concern about the poor state of Rugoma Bridge.
The bridge on the Kakirimizi- Butambi road connects to Rukiga and Rubanda districts. It was washed away by heavy rains in October 2021 and never repaired until May last 2022.
