A total of 12 candidates were on Wednesday duly nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest for various parliamentary positions in Kanungu District, covering Kinkizi East and Kinkizi West constituencies. The nominations took place at the District Council Hall, the designated nomination center.

In the race for the Kinkizi East parliamentary seat, four candidates were nominated. They include Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the NRM flag bearer; Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, an independent candidate; Allans Mark Tabaruka of the FDC; and Karungi Ruth, an independent.

Those nominated for the Kanungu District Woman Member of Parliament seat are Advocate Esther Majambere (Independent), Kinshaba Patience Nkunda (Independent), and Namara Betty Kataba, the NRM flag bearer.

In Kinkizi West, the nominated candidates are Steven Ikamukuba (Independent), Victor Rushokoora (Independent), Safari Christopher (Independent), Brian Batenda (PFF), and Retired Senior Inspector General of Police John Ngaruye Ndungutse (Independent).

Speaking to the media after his nomination, Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi expressed confidence in his ability to continue providing effective leadership. He pledged to prioritize service delivery and complete several ongoing projects, including the upgrading of tourism roads such as Kanungu–Kabale and Rugyeyo–Nyakishenyi–Rukungiri roads. He also promised to improve schools and hospitals and strengthen efforts to fight poverty among residents.

After his nomination, Dr. Baryomunsi and his supporters carried out a cleaning exercise in Kanungu Town as a way of promoting sanitation and community involvement.

Retired Senior Inspector General of Police John Ngaruye Ndungutse, who is contesting for the Kinkizi West parliamentary seat, pledged to champion inclusive development through improved healthcare, education, and agricultural transformation.

Namara Betty Kataba, the NRM flag bearer for the Woman Member of Parliament seat, vowed to enhance development across Kanungu District by improving road infrastructure to ease farmers’ access to markets, boosting agriculture, and strengthening health and education services.

Eng. Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo, an independent candidate for the Kinkizi East parliamentary seat, also promised to focus on development priorities including improved healthcare, better education, agricultural transformation to increase food production and household incomes, and the rehabilitation of key district roads.
