The youth have been cautioned against being overly influenced by modern societal trends and urged to focus on goals that will help them become responsible citizens.
This message was delivered by Reverend Father Ambrose Ndinumukiza, serving in Karambi Parish, Kanungu District, Kabale Diocese. He made the remarks during his homily at the conclusion of the four-day annual youth parish conference held at Nyakibale Parish, Nyakibale Denary, in Kabale Diocese.
Fr. Ambrose expressed concern that the youth are adopting a culture that is misleading and negatively influencing their minds. He noted that irresponsible approaches to various issues have preoccupied the youth to the extent that they neglect Church and cultural values meant to guide their educational and moral development.
He encouraged the youth to live faithfully, combat poverty and ignorance in their communities, and uphold Christian values. He likened faith to the star that led the wise men to Jesus, emphasizing that faith now guides Christians to Jesus.
Dan Bahamire, the headteacher of St. Paul’s Kazindiro in Bugangari, delivered a message on behalf of the guest of honor, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, Minister for Security. He urged parents to introduce their children to informal education, which includes instilling discipline, teaching domestic responsibilities, fostering respect for others, encouraging decent dressing, and promoting catechism. These values, he said, are essential for nurturing responsible individuals.
He further advised the youth to fear the Lord, remain prayerful, and avoid practices such as witchcraft to receive God’s blessings. Bahamire emphasized the importance of setting future goals and working toward them by listening to the guidance of parents, teachers, and church leaders. He reminded them that the journey to success requires continuous effort and perseverance.
