Hundreds of youth from various parts of Rukungiri District have begun gathering at Christ the King Catholic Parish, Nyakibale Denary, Kabale Diocese, for the Annual Youth Conference. The celebrations are taking place from January 20th to January 26th, 2025, at the parish grounds in Rukungiri Municipality.
Father Henry Barekye, the assistant parish priest of Christ the King Parish, confirmed that all preparations have been completed to welcome the youth. He explained that the conference is designed to bring young people closer to Christ while offering a holistic experience based on gospel values and the spirit of patriotism. He emphasized that the event revitalizes the youth apostolate through various messages and activities addressing different aspects of life.
Father Barekye also highlighted that the conference enables young people to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and foster relationships that promote a sense of belonging and community engagement. He appealed to parents to support their children in attending the event.
James Mucunguzi, the youth chairperson at Christ the King Parish, noted that the conference provides a unique opportunity for young people from across the parish to gather in one place to share ideas, experiences, challenges, and inspirations. He added that career guidance sessions are also part of the program, ensuring students make informed choices about their courses of study to avoid regrets or misplaced decisions.
Emmanuel Amutuhaire, a youth leader from Christ the King Hiika, expressed his excitement about joining fellow youth from other Hiikas in the parish. He said the conference provides a platform to share ideas, opportunities, and challenges, as well as to strengthen his spiritual relationship with the Lord.
He described the event as life-changing, helping many youths across the parish adopt morally upright lives and serve as positive role models in their communities.
The conference is being held under the theme inspired by Luke 1:37: “For no word from God will ever fail.”
