The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) for Rukungiri District, Madam Kagisha Karen, has called on young people to actively engage in leadership roles to shape their future positively.

Madam Karen made the remarks on Thursday while serving as the guest of honor at the swearing-in ceremony of the new guild council at Gables Vocational Training Center in Rukungiri Municipality. She encouraged students to take advantage of the supportive government programs that promote both formal education and vocational skills while also emphasizing the importance of developing leadership abilities from an early age.

“Young people are a tremendous and essential asset, but they can also pose a threat when denied access to decision-making platforms,” Madam Karen noted. She highlighted that youths are often underrepresented in religious, cultural, and political leadership positions, calling on them to step forward and engage in leadership early.

Madam Karen congratulated the incoming guild council, urging them to use their positions effectively to bring meaningful change to the school and positively impact their peers. She also emphasized the value of practical skills, noting that vocational institutions provide learners with tools to start their own projects and combat youth unemployment.

In his remarks, the Principal of Gables Vocational Training Center, Mr. Byabagambi Abel Bashome, thanked Madam Karen for visiting the school and interacting with learners. He congratulated the newly elected guild council and encouraged them to be exemplary leaders, reminding them to put God first and recognize leadership as a divine gift.

Mr. Bashome also urged students to be patriotic and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future, stressing that leadership experience at school can prepare them to lead their homes and communities effectively.

The newly elected Guild President, Amos Mugarura, expressed gratitude for the trust students had placed in him. He pledged to lead by example, support the institution’s development efforts, and serve as a strong voice for the student body.
