In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a woman battling with breast cancer for the past three years tragically passed away while en route to her home in Kisoro district.
The victim, identified as Mulakigeri Flavia, a 35-year-old resident of Chondo village in Rukongi parish, Nyarusiza sub-county, Kisoro district, had been undergoing treatment at the Cancer Institute in Mbarara.
The unfortunate incident unfolded on Tuesday, the 20th of March, 2024, when Flavia’s health took a turn for the worse.
Prompted by her deteriorating condition, her companions rushed her to Mbarara for urgent medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Flavia’s condition continued to decline.
On Friday, the 22nd of March, 2024, Flavia was discharged from the hospital, her health still precarious. Determined to return home, Flavia and her companions boarded a Jaguar bus bound for Kisoro. However, tragedy struck as they reached Ntungamo, where Flavia breathed her last.
In a heartbreaking twist, the caretaker accompanying Flavia chose to withhold the information about her passing until they arrived in Kisoro at approximately 6:00 PM. It was then that authorities were notified, and the police were summoned to the scene.
Upon arrival, the district scene of crime officers and a team of detectives swiftly responded, documenting the situation.
Statements were collected from relevant witnesses, shedding light on the sequence of events leading up to Flavia’s passing.
Her body was transported to Kisoro Hospital for a postmortem examination, as authorities initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
