Rukungir Police Station is currently investigating a case involving the alleged assault of a 46-year-old woman, Maria Busingye, by her 60-year-old husband, Richard Rukuunya, resulting in her tragic demise.
The incident occurred on the 17th of March, 2024, around 8:30 PM, following a dispute between the couple, which escalated into a physical altercation. It is reported that a neighbor, Kyarimpa Diana, intervened to aid the victim, who then sought refuge at Diana’s residence for the night without receiving medical attention.
Sadly, Maria Busingye succumbed to her injuries on the 19th of March, 2024, prompting her relatives to transport her to Rubabo Medical Centre Clinic, where she was pronounced dead.
The local council chairman, Michael Musime, informed the police, leading to the registration of the case at Rubabo Police Station under reference number 11/19/03/2024. The crime scene was thoroughly investigated, with the suspect apprehended and currently held in custody at Rukungiri CPS.
The deceased’s body has been transferred to Rwakabengo HC III mortuary for postmortem examination as part of ongoing inquiries.
