A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in Bushenyi District, western Uganda, for allegedly posting a video on social media in which she insulted President Yoweri Museveni and his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

The suspect, identified as Pathy Mbabazi, a businesswoman from Katungu Cell, Ward 3, Ishaka Division in Bushenyi District, is accused of recording the video between March 1st and 3rd, 2025, at an undisclosed location in Ishaka town.

According to Mr. Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, the video contained derogatory remarks about the president and his son, mocking their actions and undermining their roles in government. The video was then shared on the social media platform TikTok, where it gained significant attention.

Supporters of the president and concerned citizens took note of the video and reported it to the police, providing evidence. Police later recovered the suspect’s phone, which contained the video, although the video had been deleted from the phone after the suspect received warnings from her friends.

SP Gilbert Mfitumukuza, a police officer at Ishaka Police Station, confirmed the recovery of the phone and stated that it would be analyzed further. Tumusiime added that the case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further action, and the suspect is expected to face charges related to computer misuse.

This arrest follows a similar case in November 2024, where TikToker Emmanuel Nabugodi was sentenced to 32 months in prison for insulting the president on social media.
