The leadership of Western Division in Rukungiri Municipality has today officially launched the renovation of a septic tank at Kagogo Slaughter Slab and the construction of a two-stance VIP toilet at Karangaro Health Centre II in a move aimed at improving sanitation and service delivery in the area.
The launch was witnessed by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rukungiri District, Ahimbisibwe Ongom Wilberforce, who urged contractors to ensure quality work and adhere strictly to the Bills of Quantities (BoQ). He emphasized that councillors from the division will closely monitor the projects as part of quality assurance and called upon them to take their supervisory role seriously.
Ongom warned contractors against engaging in corruption or compromising standards, stressing that the government expects value for money in all public projects. He also encouraged contractors to maintain a good working relationship with technocrats to ensure the successful implementation of the works.
The Senior Town Clerk for Western Division, John Kwesiga, thanked the government for allocating funds to support the projects, noting that they will improve service delivery to residents. He assured the public that the division leadership will closely supervise the works to ensure the contractors deliver quality results.
Western Division LC III Chairperson, Twinomugyisha Sylvia Katimbiira, also commended the government of Uganda under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for providing funding for the projects. She noted that renovating the Kagogo Slaughter Slab will improve hygiene and standards in meat handling while the construction of a VIP toilet at Karangaro Health Centre II will enhance sanitation services at the facility.
Sylvia further appreciated the RDC for commissioning the projects and applauded the teamwork among Western Division leaders and Rukungiri Municipal Council. She urged the contractors to complete the works within the agreed period of three months while ensuring quality and value for money.
Rukungiri Municipality Engineer, Nuwamanya Hangson, who is supervising the projects, said he will closely work with the contractors to ensure the works are completed within the stipulated time and according to the required standards.
According to the engineer, the construction of the two-stance VIP toilet at Karangaro Health Centre II has been awarded to His Mercy Consults Ltd at a cost of 18,523,676 shillings, while the renovation of the septic tank at Kagogo Slaughter Slab has been contracted to Rwenkuraijo Building Contractors Ltd at a cost of 27,229,503 shillings.
