Visually impaired students at Hornby Girls High School in Kabale Municipality performed well in the recently released Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
The school, which educates both girls and visually impaired boys, recorded impressive results, with their top-performing student, Akatwijuka Godwin, scoring 16 points despite his visual challenges. Another visually impaired student, Arineitwe Justus, achieved 13 points.
Headteacher Aturebire John Tumusiime attributed their success to their high level of concentration in class. He noted that their disability shields them from many distractions, allowing them to focus more on their studies.
He also emphasized that the school’s teachers are specially trained to support visually impaired students, creating a conducive learning environment for them.
