Patience Akancungura, a resident of Nyakishenyi sub-county in Rukungiri district, is currently receiving medical attention for severe injuries sustained from assailants early this morning while she and her colleague, Sonia Niwandiinda of Kyamurari Nyakagyeme, were en route to work.
According to Niwandiinda, as they neared Katerera market around 5:20 am, en route from Katerera behind the main stadium to their workplace, they were accosted by three unidentified individuals wielding machetes. Without warning, they assaulted Patience, inflicting wounds on her arm, shoulder, and head, leaving her in critical condition.
Patience is presently undergoing treatment at St. Luke Medical Chambers in Rukungiri Municipality.
Expressing concern, Sonia emphasized the urgent need for improved security, citing rampant criminal activities in the town that endanger the lives of residents.
Although the incident was reported to Rukungiri Central Police, the case had not been formally registered at the time of compiling this news report.
