Businessmen, taxi operators, and bus drivers at Rukungiri Bus Park and market are urgently calling upon municipal and district officials to address the foul smell emanating from the toilets in these areas.

They argue that these toilets need to be emptied and cleaned daily to prevent potential outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, and typhoid, which are endangering their lives.

Mr. Tibingana Maritazari, a businessperson operating in the bus park, expressed his concern about the unpleasant odor and poor sanitation of these toilets. He noted that the unsanitary conditions have deterred people from dining at nearby hotels, leading to a loss of appetite. He strongly urged the mayor and other relevant authorities to take immediate action.

Another anonymous local council leader also voiced their distress regarding the toilets’ unbearable smell, making it difficult for people to use them for their intended purpose.

They pointed out that the individuals responsible for managing the bus park and market have not fulfilled their duties, emphasizing the importance of maintaining cleanliness in these areas.

Additionally, they highlighted the security concerns, noting that these places become unsafe at night as drug addicts use them as hideouts to consume drugs like cocaine, marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol.

The source further emphasized the need for improved security measures, including installing security lights and cameras in the toilets and other dimly lit areas, to protect the safety of people accessing the bus park at night.
