In a coordinated operation between the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), an important victory was achieved on April 8th, 2024. A commander of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), known as ‘Dr’ Musa, along with the outfit’s medic, was successfully neutralized in action.
The operation took place at Mugulumugulu, near Tokomeka, located approximately 30 kilometers Northwest of Kainama. ‘Dr’ Musa, originally of Rwandan origin, was operating in close collaboration with another notorious ADF commander named Muhammad Luminsa.
The joint forces managed to recover significant assets from the operation, including a Sub Machine Gun (SMG) and a Radio (walkie-talkie). Despite this victory, the efforts to locate and neutralize other members of the ADF who remain at large are ongoing.
The ADF’s tactics have recently involved an increase in the deployment of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). However, the joint forces are equipped to handle this threat, with technical explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) teams actively addressing the IED risks.
The pursuit of ADF remnants continues to be pursued vigorously by the joint forces, spanning across all four sectors of the operation. This concerted effort underscores the commitment to eradicating the ADF presence and ensuring the safety and security of the region.
