Police in Kisoro have arrested an unidentified male in his 20s who allegedly attempted to forcefully enter the voting area without being listed in the voter register for Kisoro Municipality.

The suspect was promptly detained by armed police officers at Saaza Playground polling station, under the command of Kigezi Region Police Commander Ibrahim Saiga. He was taken to Kisoro Central Police Station at 11:40 a.m., while the registrar continued reading the names of eligible voters.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate condemned the incident, urging voters to comply with voting guidelines. Maate noted that the suspect had been repeatedly warned about attempting to enter the voting area illegally, but he ignored the warnings.

According to Maate, the suspect will remain in custody until the voting process is completed.

Meanwhile, voters disregarded the voting schedule set by NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi. Voting was initially set to take place between 11:00 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. across all polling stations in the district; however, voting in most locations began at 12:00 p.m.

By the end of the day, voters will select the NRM flag bearer for the Woman MP position in Kisoro District. Candidates include Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, Mbonye Hellen, Igiraneza Winfred Faith, Irakunda Jemimah, Rose Kabagyeni, Kitentera Blessed, Irene Mahirwe, and Nirere Fancy Brenda. The winner will succeed the late Sarah Mateke, the former State Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs and Woman MP for Kisoro.
