Police in Kabale District are investigating a suspected case of murder after the body of an unidentified male adult was discovered floating in a river at Mushenyi “A” Village, Bigaga Parish, Butanda Sub-county.

According to reports, the area chairman, Baburata Edison, received information on May 13, 2025, about a dead body floating in a small river within his jurisdiction. He proceeded to the scene with local residents and confirmed the presence of a lifeless body.

The matter was reported to Butanda Police, prompting a swift response from the homicide team led by D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, the Acting District CID Officer for Kabale. The team visited the scene, documented evidence, and retrieved the body, which was later transported to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

Statements were taken from the first respondents at the scene. However, no arrests have been made so far, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, urged the public to come forward if they are missing a male relative. “Anyone missing a dear one should visit the hospital mortuary for identification and to facilitate a decent burial,” he said.

Authorities continue to appeal for any information that may assist in the ongoing investigation.
