Shock gripped residents of Kigongi “A” Cell in Kabale Municipality after the lifeless body of a man only known as Rasta was discovered in his bed on the morning of Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
According to police, the deceased allegedly died during the night of May 13, 2025, at his residence in Kigongi Ward, Central Division. The incident came to light when Asiimwe Ashim was alerted by Yiga Hussein, a housemate of the deceased, that Rasta had not woken up and appeared unresponsive.
Asiimwe rushed to the scene and confirmed the worst — Rasta was dead. He noted that the deceased appeared to have vomited before passing away, leading to suspicions that he may have succumbed to complications related to excessive alcohol consumption on an empty stomach.
Kabale territorial police were immediately notified and responded swiftly. A case of sudden death was opened, the scene was visited and documented, and the body was conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to determine the actual cause of death. “We appeal to anyone who knows the identity of the deceased or has any information to come forward and help in identifying him and facilitating a decent burial,” Maate said.
This tragic incident has sent a wave of concern through the community, with local leaders urging residents to look out for one another, especially those battling alcohol dependency.
