The serene hills of Kabale will echo with jubilation this Sunday, May 18, 2025, as Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, celebrates his Priestly Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of unwavering service in the Roman Catholic Church. The grand celebration will take place at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral, where the faithful from all walks of life are expected to converge in a sea of gratitude and reverence.

Born on 8 February 1950, in Rubira village, Kyanamira Sub County, Bishop Rubaramira’s life has been a testament to humility, leadership, and steadfast faith. Raised as the second-born among ten siblings to parents Cyprion Kwigira and Seforoza Bamusibane, the future bishop was rooted in a strong Catholic foundation within Rushoroza Parish, under the Diocese of Kabale.

His educational journey saw him pass through Saint Francis Kyanamira Primary School, then St. Paul’s Seminary Mutolere for O-Level, and later Kitabi Seminary in Bushenyi for A-Level studies. He pursued higher education in philosophy at Katigondo National Major Seminary and theology at St. Mary’s National Seminary, Ggaba, culminating in Bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Theology. His academic pursuits also led him abroad, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Portland, Oregon, USA.

Ordained a priest on 18th May 1975 at Rushoroza Cathedral Parish Church, Bishop Rubaramira has faithfully served for five decades. His pastoral journey included roles such as Parish Priest and Apostolic Vicar in Rukungiri, Secretary to the Bishop, Chancellor, Diocesan Treasurer, and Financial Administrator of the Diocese of Kabale.

On March 18, 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Kabale, and he was officially installed on 8th June 2003, becoming the fourth shepherd of the diocese after Bishops Gervasius Nkalanga, Barnabas Halem’Imana, and Robert Mary Gay.

As Kabale Diocese prepares for this historic celebration, Bishop Rubaramira is lauded not only for his ecclesiastical leadership but also for his exemplary humility, spiritual guidance, and commitment to social transformation across southwestern Uganda.
