The government of Uganda, in collaboration with the World Bank, has successfully processed 417 freehold land titles in Kanyaryeru and Sanga, located in Nyabushozi Kiruhura district, through the Systematic Land Adjudication and Certification (SLAAC) initiative under the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development. The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Ms Judith Nalule Nabakooba, officiated the handover ceremony in Kanyaryeru sub-county and Sanga town council. The event was attended by delighted beneficiaries who commended President Museveni for the initiative, as well as local leaders including the district chairperson Mr Mukago Rutetebya, and representatives from various government offices.
Hon Nabakoza highlighted the importance of the SLAAC program in providing land tenure security to the residents, enabling them to engage in productive activities such as commercial agriculture while safeguarding their land from encroachment. She emphasized the need for timely processing of land titles and urged the district leadership to utilize local technical teams to expedite the surveying and titling of government land.
Chairperson Rutetebya urged the ministry to consider improvements in urban infrastructure, particularly focusing on roads and street lighting. MP Wilson Kajwengye informed that another batch of processed land titles has been delivered to beneficiaries in Kanyaryeru, Sanga, and Akayanja sub-counties. He cautioned beneficiaries against jeopardizing their land titles by handing them over to money lenders or entrusting them to friends.
MP Jovanice Rwenduuru Twonobusingye appealed to the government and the president to address the issue of surveyed land whose owners have not yet received their titles, seeking clarity on the matter.
