NAB Twetungure group, a community-based organization focused on skill development in Bunenero parish, Rubaya sub-county, Kashari South, Mbarara district, recently received a generous donation from MTN Uganda. Ten modern sewing machines valued at shs 14 million were donated to the group. Mrs. Ronah Nyakato Aine, the chairperson of NAB Twetungure, disclosed that the group secured the donation after emerging victorious in the Change Makers program campaign of 2023, which aims to promote inclusion and empower women in the community.

The handover ceremony for the sewing machines took place at Bunenero Trading Center, Rubaya sub-county, with Mrs. Loydah Twinomujuni Kyarikunda, the Mbarara district woman councilor representing Rubaya sub-county, presiding over the event. Mrs. Kyarikunda commended NAB Twetungure for their efforts in promoting valuable community-based skilling programs, emphasizing their importance despite their costs. She pledged to provide textbooks and other requested funding to support the group’s endeavors.

Mrs. Kyarikunda urged both trainers and learners to treat the donated sewing machines with care and not to repurpose them for personal economic gain, but rather preserve them for the collective economic growth of the community. Former Mbarara district chairperson, Capt JB Timusiime Bamuturaki, applauded the group’s predominantly female membership, highlighting the strength and sustainability it brings. He also contributed shilling 300,000= towards the group’s economic development.

Capt JB Tumusiime expressed gratitude to MTN Uganda for their social corporate responsibility and suggested improvements to the communication infrastructure in the area. Fazil Damulira, the Regional Manager of MTN Uganda southwestern region, mentioned that NAB Twetungure group, specializing in tailoring and crafts, and Nyakibare Lower Primary School, hosting a unit for the deaf in Rukungiri municipality, Rukungiri district, were the two winning groups of the Change Makers 2023 program. He highlighted their transformative impact on the community.

Mrs. Ronah Nyakato Aine, chairperson of NAB Twetungure group in Bunenero, shared that they were motivated to participate in the program after hearing advertisements on the radio. The group, comprising thirty members, is dedicated to training individuals in tailoring and crafts.
